PGT Construction in Fort Worth, TX | Elmstead Remodeling Fort Worth
We provide independent PGT construction service across Fort Worth, TX, handling window and door installations, replacements, and repairs on homes from Fairmount to Wedgwood and up into the far north suburbs. The one thing that makes our PGT work here different is that we plan every installation around Fort Worth’s expansive clay soil and the foundation movement it causes. A window that fits square today can bind in five years if the opening wasn’t reinforced for what the ground underneath is going to do. We’re Elmstead Remodeling Fort Worth, a General Contractor - Fort Worth Cedarwell company, and Graham Stein leads our crew. Call (682) 708-9180 for a written estimate before any work begins.
Why Fort Worth Residents Choose Us for PGT Service

Serving Fort Worth service area homeowners since our founding, we’ve built our PGT work around one reality: most window and door failures here trace back to the soil, not the product. Our remodelers work on more PGT window and door retrofits in slab-on-grade Fort Worth homes than most general contractors. We know the product lines, the local installation quirks, and how to make them right when clay soil has stressed the openings.
Graham grew up in Los Angeles and learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before spending decades on construction sites across North Texas. He writes every scope of work down before a single tool comes off the truck. That habit matters on PGT work, where the difference between a ten-year window and a twenty-year window is often the prep work nobody sees. When we install, our crew wears shoe covers, lays drop cloths, and asks before moving anything. We schedule noisy demo outside school-pickup hours when families are living in the house during the work.
We’re an independent PGT service provider. We’re not manufacturer-affiliated or authorized, which means we recommend what’s actually right for your opening, not what a brand program tells us to push. For PGT sales & service, we draw on factory parts where they exist and proven aftermarket equivalents where PGT parts have been discontinued.

Common PGT Construction Problems We Solve in Fort Worth
- Sash sag on wide WinGuard sliders in Fairmount bungalows. The original framing on 1920s piers shifts and binds the tracks. The slider still looks fine from the outside, but inside it takes two hands to open. We re-level the pier, reinforce the rough opening, and reset the sash with PGT factory rollers.
- Condensation between panes on older SpectraGuard units in Wedgwood ranch homes. Fort Worth’s hot-dry summers followed by sudden wet spells stress the sealant over time. Once the desiccant inside the spacer is saturated, the fog won’t clear on its own. The fix is replacement glass or a full sash swap, not a sealant patch.
- Eze-Breeze vinyl glazing channels cracking along north-facing porches. UV exposure and thermal shock do the damage even on the shaded side of the house. Cracks let in drafts and insects. We replace the channel and re-glaze the panel when the frame is still square.
- Fogged or hazy glass on early-2000s WinGuard casements after severe hail storms. Hail in Fort Worth’s southwest sector has cracked seals on thousands of units that look fine until the first humid morning. If the frame is racked more than 3/8″ out of square from foundation movement, we recommend a full replacement rather than a patch.
- Racked frames on slab-on-grade homes. When the clay under a Fort Worth slab shrinks during a dry summer, corners drop. Window openings go out of square. Shimming a window into a racked opening works for a season, then the sash binds again. We address the opening first.
PGT Service in Fort Worth: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
In the TCU area, many 1940s-era pier-and-beam homes are being leveled and reinforced due to persistent soil movement, and that work is colliding with a wave of PGT WinGuard retrofits where old wood sashes have twisted out of square. Our reinforcement strategy ties new window framing back to re-leveled piers, not just shims. On a 1947 pier-and-beam home off Bluebonnet Circle, our crew pulled a pair of PGT WinGuard Aluminum Clear sliders that had sagged 5/8″ because the southeast corner of the house had settled onto a cracked pier. We re-leveled that pier, reinforced the rough opening with a new treated sill plate, and reset the sliders with PGT factory rollers and stainless steel screws. The sashes now glide with one hand. That’s the difference between treating the symptom and treating the ground under the house. A contractor who only does windows may never look at the piers. We do both because in Fort Worth, on that soil, one doesn’t hold without the other.
PGT Models & Products We Service in Fort Worth
Our crew works on PGT WinGuard Vinyl Aluminum, WinGuard Aluminum Clear, SpectraGuard, and Eze-Breeze lines. We use PGT factory parts for rollers, locks, and weatherstripping on in-warranty units, and on out-of-warranty work we match specs with quality aftermarket equivalents only when PGT parts are discontinued or unavailable. Common parts like rollers, keepers, and weatherstripping are stocked on our trucks for faster Fort Worth turnaround. Less common hardware comes from our local supplier network, usually within a few days. For home additions, we install new PGT windows and doors to match existing fixtures where the homeowner wants them, and we spec impact-rated units where Fort Worth building codes require them.

FAQs – PGT Construction in Fort Worth
Yes, but we don’t recommend it. Installing square windows into a racked opening transfers the problem to the new window. On TCU-area pier-and-beam homes, we prefer to re-level the affected piers first, then set the window into a reinforced opening. If the homeowner wants the windows done now and the leveling later, we’ll shim the opening and document it, but the window will not perform the way it should long-term. Call (682) 708-9180 and we’ll look at the piers before we quote the windows.
Condensation between panes means the seal around the insulated glass unit has failed. Fort Worth’s hot-dry summers and sudden heavy rains put repeated thermal stress on SpectraGuard seals, especially in Wedgwood ranch homes built mid-century. Once the seal goes, moisture gets inside the air space and the desiccant fills up. The fix is replacing the glass unit or the sash, not applying a sealant. We can inspect and tell you which path makes sense on your specific windows.
Most can be repaired if the aluminum frame is still square and the vinyl glazing channel is the only thing cracked or split. We replace the channel, re-glaze the panel, and reinstall. If hail has dimpled the aluminum or the frame is bent, replacement is the better call. For an exact assessment, call (682) 708-9180 and we’ll look at each panel.
WinGuard is PGT’s impact-rated line, built for coastal and storm zones, with aluminum or vinyl frames. SpectraGuard is PGT’s non-impact energy-efficiency line, often vinyl, with a focus on insulation. In Fort Worth, both have a place. A home addition facing strong western sun may do better with SpectraGuard for thermal performance, while a room with large glass on a hail-exposed elevation may warrant WinGuard. We’ll spec what fits the addition and the elevation, not what’s easier to order.
We treat the cracked veneer as a symptom of the same soil movement that compromised the window opening. Before setting the new PGT unit, we check the slab and the opening for out-of-square conditions. If the frame is racked more than 3/8″, we recommend correction before installation. Then we set the replacement window with a reinforced rough opening and proper flashing, so the new unit isn’t fighting the same forces that ruined the last one. For a written assessment, call (682) 708-9180.
