PGT Kitchen Remodeling: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

If you have a PGT kitchen window or door that’s part of a remodel, or you’re planning a kitchen renovation around PGT products already in your Fort Worth home, a full kitchen remodel typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 depending on cabinet grade, countertop material, and how much structural work your layout requires. We install PGT-compatible windows and doors as part of broader kitchen remodels, and we also replace failed PGT components during the project so you don’t have to coordinate a separate contractor. Most owners discover a PGT part has failed the way Jane did in Wedgwood last spring: a window over the sink wouldn’t seal after years of Texas sun and the occasional hailstorm, and suddenly the remodel she’d been planning had to happen sooner than she thought.

PGT makes impact-rated and standard windows and doors that hold up well, but the kitchen is a punishing room. Heat, grease, steam, and constant use wear out seals, hardware, and tracks faster than in any other room. Before you pull the trigger on a $14,000+ remodel, you need to know whether your existing PGT products can be salvaged or should be replaced as part of the work.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

PGT builds windows and doors in several product families, and the kitchen-relevant ones break down like this: the WinGuard series (impact-rated, common in newer Fort Worth builds and homes near open exposure), the SpectraGuard series (foam-filled frames for better thermal performance), and the ClassicVue Max series (broader sightlines for picture windows often used above sinks). Door products include PGT sliding glass doors and French doors that open to patios or backyards off the kitchen.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see most often in Fort Worth: PGT changed glass-pack dimensions across model years, so a WinGuard sash from 2014 will not necessarily fit a 2021 frame, even if both are labeled WinGuard. You cannot go by series name alone. You need the etched glass markings (every PGT impact product has a small etch in the corner of the glass with the product code and manufacture date) or the label on the frame edge. If the label is gone, we photograph the sash and measure the glass pack thickness, which tells us most of what we need. For aftermarket hardware like replacement locks and rollers, quality equivalents exist and we’re comfortable specifying them for out-of-warranty units. For glass replacement itself, we insist on PGT or PGT-spec lami glass because the impact rating lives in the glass composition, not just the frame. An aftermarket pane may look the same and fail the next big storm.

Signs Your PGT Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • The window or door won’t lock without forcing it. This usually means the sash has settled or the hardware has worn past tolerance. In a kitchen, daily open-close cycles during cooking accelerate this. Forcing the lock damages the keeper, and once that’s bent, the lock needs replacement, not adjustment.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. The seal has failed and the insulating gas has escaped. This is not cosmetic. The window has lost most of its thermal performance, and in Fort Worth summers, that means real heat gain right at your cooking zone.
  • The sliding door sticks, skips, or grinds when opened. Roller assemblies wear out, and the track fills with kitchen grit. If you hear metal-on-metal grinding, the roller wheel has likely flat-spotted and is chewing the track. Replacing the roller sooner is cheaper than replacing the track later.
  • Water staining on the interior sill or drywall below the window. PGT frames are well-sealed when installed correctly, but twenty years of Texas sun degrades exterior sealant. A failed seal lets water wick into the wall cavity during driving rain. By the time you see staining, the seal has been gone for months.
  • The impact glass shows a crack or “spider web” from a past strike. Even if the lamination held (which is what it’s designed to do), a cracked pane has compromised structural integrity. It will not perform to spec in the next storm, and a kitchen remodel is the right time to replace it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

A full PGT kitchen remodel in Fort Worth runs $14,000 – $45,000, with the final number driven by five things: the cabinet line you choose (KraftMaid stock runs less than Wellborn semi-custom), countertop material (Cambria and Silestone quartz land in the $2,000 – $6,500 installed range depending on square footage), whether you’re moving plumbing or gas lines, whether your existing PGT windows and doors can stay in place or need replacement, and how much of the existing kitchen has to be demolished. Smaller kitchens with stock cabinets and a modest countertop scope start around $9,000 – $20,000.

Every quote we write in Fort Worth is a written line-item price before any work starts. That means the cabinet cost, the PGT window or door work if included, the countertop fabrication, the plumbing, the electrical, the tile, and the dump fees are all listed individually. You’ll see the permit cost as its own line. If the scope doesn’t change, the price doesn’t change. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the completed project: if something isn’t done right after we leave, we make it right. And the written price and the final invoice should read the same – if they don’t, that’s on us to explain before we hand you a pen.

Here’s how the pricing breaks down by scope in Fort Worth:

  • Small kitchen remodel: $9,000 – $20,000 (cosmetic updates, stock cabinets, laminate or entry quartz)
  • Cabinet installation: $4,000 – $13,000 (KraftMaid or Wellborn, depending on linear feet and finish)
  • Countertop installation: $2,000 – $6,500 (Cambria, Silestone, or Caesarstone quartz)
  • Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500 (tile, including prep and grout)
  • Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000 (custom or semi-custom, including electrical if needed)

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do a few things without tools: photograph the etched glass marking on your PGT window or door so you have the product code ready, vacuum out the roller track on a sliding door to see if the sticking is just grit, and note whether the condensation is between the panes or on the room-side surface (room-side condensation is an indoor humidity issue; between-pane condensation is the failed seal). Those observations help us quote faster.

What you shouldn’t do is pull a PGT sash out of a kitchen window to replace a roller or balance yourself. Impact-rated sashes are heavy, and a dropped sash on a granite countertop ruins your afternoon and the countertop. PGT sliding glass doors in particular put significant tension on roller assemblies; an untrained removal can spring the assembly or crack the frame corner. We’ve also seen homeowners “fix” a failed seal with a DIY defogging kit, which leaves micro-drill holes in the glass edge and voids any remaining warranty. If the window or door is part of a kitchen remodel, let our crew handle it while the counters are already staged for install. Call (682) 708-9180 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a repair or a replacement, no charge for the conversation.

Why Fort Worth Families Call Elmstead for Kitchen Remodels Involving PGT Products

Graham Stein, our owner, learned construction at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before spending decades on job sites across North Texas, and he writes every scope of work down before a single tool comes off the truck. That habit matters on kitchen remodels where the PGT window over the sink has to be swapped while the old cabinets are already out and the new Cambria countertops are sitting in the driveway. Sequencing matters. We plan our demo around school-pickup hours when a family is living in the house during the remodel, and we keep quiet tools available for nap-time work where the scope allows it.

Our crews run on the Cedarwell Care Promise, which is not a slogan. It’s the checklist. Shoe covers at every entry, drop cloths on every floor path, a photo of the clean-up before we leave each day, and a written price before any work starts – every time, on every project. We partner with KraftMaid, Wellborn, Cambria, Silestone, Kohler, Moen, Grohe, Schluter, and James Hardie so you can research every named material we specify and verify the manufacturer warranty yourself. We also stock and install parts for KraftMaid cabinets, Cambria countertops, and Silestone surfaces alongside the PGT window and door work. Elmstead Remodeling Fort Worth is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with PGT; that independence is exactly why you get an honest recommendation when a repair makes more sense than a replacement. Phones are answered by a live person around the clock at (682) 708-9180, which matters if you’re mid-remodel and a question comes up at 9pm.

If you’ve got a PGT kitchen window or door that needs attention, or you’re ready to plan a full Fort Worth kitchen remodel around the PGT products already in your home, call (682) 708-9180 for a free estimate. We’ll walk your kitchen, write down exactly what needs to happen, and put a number next to every line before you decide anything.
