PGT Windows & Doors: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We stock and install PGT-compatible window and door parts across Fort Worth, with most replacements running between $300 and $1,800 installed depending on the part, your PGT series, and whether it’s a simple swap or requires frame work. We carry common PGT hardware, balances, rollers, weatherstripping, and glass replacement options on our trucks, so many jobs can be completed the same day without waiting on a special order. Most Fort Worth owners realize something’s wrong the same way: a window that suddenly won’t stay up, a door that scrapes or sticks after years of Texas heat, or a latch that no longer catches cleanly.
The first sign is usually small. A sash that takes two hands to lift. A sliding door that sounds like gravel when you open it. A draft you can feel with the back of your hand on a windy March afternoon. PGT windows and doors are built for coastal hurricane conditions, which means they’re overbuilt for most of what Fort Worth throws at them. But sun, clay soil movement, and hard water all take their own toll over time. The good news is that most PGT failures are isolated to a single component, not the whole window or door. Replacing that component correctly, with the right spec for your series, gets the unit working like it should without tearing out the frame.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT builds several lines, and the part you need depends on which one hangs in your house. The most common in Fort Worth are the WinGuard series (impact-rated, often installed after hailstorms or insurance claims), the SpectraGuard and ClassicVue lines, and the Eze-Breeze porch enclosure systems. Each uses different balances, different roller assemblies, and different lock geometry. A balance assembly from a WinGuard single-hung will not fit a SpectraGuard slider, even when both windows are the same width. That compatibility gotcha is the single biggest reason we see homeowners order the wrong part online.
To identify your model, check the corner of the glass or the frame edge for an etched label or sticker. PGT prints the series name, glass type, and often a serial or order code there. If the label is faded or painted over, we can match most parts from the measurements and a photo of the hardware. On OEM versus aftermarket: for PGT, we generally recommend OEM or PGT-equivalent parts for anything structural like balances, impact glass, and laminated sashes, because the wind-load ratings are part of what you paid for. For wear items like rollers, weatherstripping, and handles, quality aftermarket equivalents that meet the same dimension and finish specs are often a smarter spend. We’ll give you both options in writing so you can decide with the numbers in front of you.

Signs Your PGT Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window won’t stay up without a prop. The side balance or block-and-tackle system has lost tension. This happens faster in Fort Worth because summer heat cycles weaken the spring inside the balance over a shorter number of years than coastal climates.
- Sliding door drags or jumps the track. Clay soil movement under Fort Worth slabs shifts door frames fractions of an inch over time, which wears rollers unevenly. By the time the door makes noise, the roller bearing is usually flattened on one side.
- Condensation or haze between the two panes. The seal in the insulated glass unit has failed. We see this most often on west-facing windows and doors in Fort Worth, where afternoon sun cooks the sealant until it separates.
- Lock or latch no longer throws cleanly. The keeper and the lock body have drifted out of alignment, usually from frame movement or years of minor slamming. Forcing the latch eventually strips the internal gears, and then the part is beyond repair.
- You can feel air or see daylight at the sill. Weatherstripping has compressed or torn, or the door sweep has worn down. This is the easiest PGT repair, but it’s also the one that quietly raises your electric bill every month in a Fort Worth summer.

- Lock hardware (single lock or keeper): $120 – $350 installed
- Roller assembly replacement (per sliding panel): $180 – $420

The range depends on your series, glass type, whether the frame needs re-shimming, and accessibility. What’s included in every quote from us: the part, the labor, the clean-up, and a written price before any work starts. The written price and the final invoice should read the same – if they don’t, that’s on us to explain before we hand you a pen. We back every PGT part replacement with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right after the job is complete, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Some PGT parts are genuinely safe to check yourself. You can look at weatherstripping, test a lock, or feel for drafts without touching a tool. Cleaning a sliding door track and clearing debris from the weep holes at the bottom of the frame takes twenty minutes and costs nothing. If the door glides noticeably better after a cleaning, you’ve just solved the problem with a rag and a vacuum.
Balances and rollers are a different story. The tension in a window balance can release suddenly when you remove the sash, and a sliding door with the roller assembly removed is heavy enough to cause real injury if it shifts or tips. Glass unit replacement means handling a pane that can weigh forty pounds and shatter if flexed. We’d rather you call us than find out the hard way that the part was under more load than it looked. Call (682) 708-9180 and we’ll walk through what you’re seeing, give you a straight answer over the phone, and schedule a look if it needs one. The estimate is free.
FAQs

PGT frames and glass are generally rated for 20 to 30 years, but weatherstripping, balances, and rollers typically need replacement every 8 to 12 years in Fort Worth’s heat and clay soil conditions. Impact glass itself can last much longer, but the seal between the panes tends to fail first on west-facing exposures. Call (682) 708-9180 if you’re noticing condensation or drafts, and we’ll help you figure out whether it’s a worn part or a bigger issue.
Some can. Rollers can sometimes be cleaned and lubricated, and a sticking lock can be realigned without new parts. But balances, torn weatherstripping, and failed glass seals are replace-only items, and our recommendation is always to replace that part properly rather than bandage it. We’ll tell you plainly if a repair is worth doing, and we’ll put the price in writing before any work starts.
Most single-panel replacements like a roller swap, balance swap, or weatherstripping job take under an hour once we’re on site. An insulated glass unit replacement takes longer because the replacement unit is cut and sealed to order, and the sash has to come out of the frame. We’ll give you a realistic timeline when we quote the job, and we schedule noisy demolition outside school-pickup hours when families are still living in the house.
We keep common PGT roller assemblies, balances, weatherstripping, and lock hardware on our trucks for the series we see most often in Fort Worth: WinGuard, SpectraGuard, ClassicVue, and Eze-Breeze. Unusual sizes, custom laminate glass, and special-order hardware take longer because they come from regional suppliers. For other brands, we also keep parts for KraftMaid cabinet hardware, Cambria and Silestone surfaces, and the fixtures we install, so a single appointment can handle most moving pieces in the house.
If you have a PGT window or door that’s acting up, don’t guess at the part number or order blind. We’ll match it, price it, and install it so the unit works like it did on day one. Call (682) 708-9180 to schedule your free estimate, and we’ll put the numbers in writing before a single tool comes off the truck.
