Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Fort Worth and want Techo-Bloc hardscape integrated into the project, a full addition with Techo-Bloc paver patios, walkways, or retaining walls typically runs $45,000 – $130,000 installed, while a detached ADU with Techo-Bloc exterior features lands between $90,000 and $220,000. Most Fort Worth homeowners reach out to us after the framing is already done and they realize the exterior finish work, the pavers, the steps, the drainage, still needs someone who actually knows how Techo-Bloc products seat and lock together. That gap between “the addition is built” and “the whole thing looks and drains right” is where we come in, and it’s work we’ve done across Fort Worth from Fairmount to the Cultural District and every neighborhood in between.
At Elmstead Remodeling Fort Worth, we’re an independent contractor, not a Techo-Bloc dealer or affiliate. What we bring is hands-on experience with their paver systems, wall blocks, and step units in North Texas soil and weather, plus a written price before any work starts. Graham Stein, our owner, grew up in Los Angeles and learned construction at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, then spent decades running jobs across North Texas. He’s the one who writes every scope down before the first tool comes off the truck. You’ll see his name on the quote.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc makes dozens of paver and wall lines, and not all of them belong in a Fort Worth addition or ADU. The lines we specify most often for additions are the Blu 60 mm pavers for paver patios and walkways, the Borealis or Villagio lines for a cleaner architectural look, and the Mini-Creta wall block for low retaining walls or planter borders where the house meets the yard. For a modern ADU exterior, the Industria or Victorien slabs give a tighter, more contemporary finish than a traditional paver.
The compatibility gotcha most Fort Worth owners don’t know about: Techo-Bloc paver thickness is not universal across their lines. Blu pavers are available in 60 mm and 80 mm, but some of the larger-format slabs like Industria come only in 60 mm unless you special-order. If your addition plans call for a paver driveway or a surface that will carry occasional vehicle weight, 80 mm is the minimum we’ll install. Ordering the wrong thickness is the single most common Techo-Bloc mistake we correct on other contractors’ work here in Fort Worth. Always check the product code stamped on the underside of a sample or existing paver before you buy.
For wall block, the Mini-Creta system uses a rear lip that seats each course without adhesive for walls up to 24 inches. Beyond that height, Techo-Bloc requires geogrid reinforcement, a step that gets skipped surprisingly often and shows up later as a leaning wall after a wet Fort Worth spring. As for OEM versus aftermarket, Techo-Bloc doesn’t offer a separate “parts” catalog for most of their lines. What you’re buying is either genuine Techo-Bloc product or a different manufacturer’s paver that looks close. We always recommend genuine product for additions and ADUs because the color blends, joint widths, and texture are matched at the factory, and that matters when the new patio butts up against a 2018 walkway you’re keeping.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
If you already have Techo-Bloc hardscape on your Fort Worth property and something looks off, here’s what we typically find when we’re called out:
- Pavers sinking or dipping near the house. This almost always traces back to an inadequately compacted base, not a bad paver. Fort Worth’s clay soil expands and contracts through our wet-dry cycles, and if the gravel base was skimped on, the surface follows the soil down. The fix is lifting the affected section, re-compacting, and relaying the same pavers where possible.
- Joint sand washing out after every rain. Techo-Bloc pavers need polymeric sand swept into the joints and activated. If you’re seeing bare gaps or weeds sprouting between pavers, the sand was either never installed, blown out by a leaf blower before it set, or the wrong type was used. This is a repair we do all over Fort Worth.
- A retaining wall leaning or bulging. This is structural, not cosmetic. It means water is building up behind the wall, the drainage gravel or pipe is missing, or the wall exceeded its unreinforced height limit. This can get dangerous and needs a professional out to look before it fails.
- Stairs or step units shifting out of alignment. Techo-Bloc steps are heavy and should not move. Movement means the base under the steps is eroding or the edge restraint failed. If the step rocks when you put weight on it, stop using it and call.
- Water pooling against the addition’s foundation. This one is about grading, not the pavers themselves. If the finished surface slopes toward the house instead of away, you’ll get moisture against the slab. We correct the grade at the same time we reset or replace pavers.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Worth, a Techo-Bloc paver patio added to a home addition project typically falls between $3,500 and $11,000 as a standalone scope. Poured concrete driveways adjacent to additions run $4,500 – $12,000, and a paver driveway with Techo-Bloc Blu 80 mm runs $7,000 – $18,000. When the hardscape is folded into a larger home addition, the whole project usually falls in the $45,000 – $130,000 range. A detached ADU with a Techo-Bloc patio and walkway package lands at $90,000 – $220,000.
What drives the range: square footage, soil conditions (some Fort Worth lots need more excavation and base material than others), access for equipment, and whether we’re working from a clean slate or correcting someone else’s failed base. Every quote we write for a Techo-Bloc job in Fort Worth includes the line-item cost of materials, base preparation, labor, and haul-off. You see the written price before we start, and that price doesn’t change unless the scope changes. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise means if the pavers shift, the sand fails, or the wall moves within a year of completion, we come back and make it right without a debate.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
There are things you can safely do as a homeowner: pull weeds from the joints, sweep the surface, and watch how water moves across the pavers after a rain. That last one is genuinely useful information when you call us. What you shouldn’t do is lift, reset, or re-base Techo-Bloc pavers on your own. A single Blu 60 mm paver weighs around 45 pounds, and removing a section large enough to fix a dip means moving a few hundred pounds of material. If there’s a wall involved, the risk climbs fast. A leaning Mini-Creta wall with a failed base can collapse during a DIY repair, and that’s a hospital visit nobody needs. For anything beyond surface-level cleaning, call (682) 708-9180 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you honestly whether it needs a crew or just a better broom.
FAQs

A properly installed Techo-Bloc paver patio or walkway in Fort Worth should last 25 to 40 years. The pavers themselves rarely fail; what fails is the base or the joint sand, which we address by re-compacting and re-sanding without replacing the surface. Call (682) 708-9180 if you’re seeing sinking or joint washout.
In most cases, yes. We lift the affected pavers, repair or rebuild the base beneath them, relay the same units, and re-sand the joints. Full replacement only makes sense if the pavers themselves are cracked, heavily stained, or the color is discontinued and you can’t live with the mismatch.
A paver patio repair on a Fort Worth home typically takes one to two days, including base work and sand activation. A full addition with new hardscape runs weeks, not days, and we’ll put the schedule in writing before we start, including which days we’ll be doing noisy work.
We don’t warehouse Techo-Bloc inventory, but we order directly from regional suppliers serving Fort Worth and the turnaround is usually a few days for common lines like Blu and Mini-Creta. We’ll confirm availability for your specific color and thickness before we quote so the written price reflects reality.
